It's not enough that I hardly have any time to do the things in life I'm already committed to...mother, lover, worker, painter, comic book reader. Now, I've another addiction to add to my list of commitments, that being Second Life. After reading a few articles on Second LifeSL, I decided I had to check it out myself. You can basically play SL without having to pay any monthly fees, use it as a way to meet new people and make friends. But after trying to play around with the templates provided by SL to customize my avatar, it's become quite evident to me that I'm going to have to learn how to make my own skins, clothing and hair for my avatar, or I'm going to have to learn how to make a lot of money to make my avatar stylish and keep her stylish after the initial stylishness has been attained.
So far by camping out on dance pads and cafe seats, I've been able to make $26 Lindendollars. Wooohooo! Make that Booohoooo! I haven't felt this desperately poor since I first moved out of my parents house and ate mainly Top Ramen so I could pay my rent.
So there is the potential making new friends aspect of SL, but more interesting is the fact that people are actually using SL to do some seriously damn cool stuff.
The downside of my SL experience so far has been that the powerlessness of my graphics card left me wanting. Movement in SL for me is choppy and annoying. Hopefully that will all be fixed soon...crossing fingers, eyes and toes.
So...here is what my avatar currently looks like. Once I have update my skin, clothes and hair...I hope to be tremendously cute. Until then, creating a new world or becoming the next SL mogul will have to wait.

Sitting in a cafe making some $Ld's

I made a friend! Siana introduced me to some cool clubs in SL and also a place I could shake my groove thang to make some $Ld's.

Here's my avie shaking it up in a casino. More $Ld's to add to my collection.

One of the cool things about SL is that whatever you can imagine, you can create! Here's a view of the Ivory Tower Library where SLers go to learn to manipulate prims to build homes, trees, chairs, beds, clothes, hair, cars, cats, fountains...whatever your heart desires. Also, another thing about this shot, my avie is looking at the Ivory Tower from atop of a very tall sculpture. How did she get there? She flew!
